Members of the Board of Supervisors serve as the legislative body for Sutter County and provide policy direction for all branches of County government.

Each of the five members represents an area of the County, known as a Supervisorial District, and is elected by the voters in that District to a four-year term. While the five Supervisorial Districts vary greatly in geographic size, they all have approximately the same population. The District boundaries are redrawn after each census to ensure an even distribution of the population.

The terms of the Supervisors overlap, with the voters electing a representative in Districts 1, 4, and 5 during Presidential election years and Districts 2 and 3 in State general election years. Similar to a corporate board of directors, but with broader powers, the Board of Supervisors sets policy for the County and its operation within guidelines established by State and federal laws and regulations.

The Board is responsible for enacting ordinances and resolutions, adopting the budget, levying taxes, and approving formal contracts and agreements. The Board of Supervisors also serves as the governing body for several special districts which provide water, sewer, and fire suppression services in the unincorporated areas.

District 2 MapA longtime Sutter County resident and local business owner, Dan Flores was elected to the Sutter County Board of Supervisors in the 2014 Primary election and sworn in to office in January 2015. Dan and his wife, Tonya, own and operate Cambridge Junior College, a small business that began in Yuba City in 1999. Together, they have built two successful businesses from the ground up in Yuba City. Sutter County has been a great place for Dan to live, work, succeed and raise his family.

Dan graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Grand Canyon University.

Family is very important to Dan. Dan moved to Sutter County to be close to his parents. Since then, he’s attended hundreds of community events and participated as a member of numerous impactful boards. Dan is very active in his church where he volunteers.

Dan has served on the Board of Directors for the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce and the Yuba-Sutter Economic Development Corporation among others. Dan is passionate about supporting economic development initiatives in the County. He is a strong supporter of public safety. He is keenly aware that government was created to protect the people of our great nation.

Known as the "City Supervisor," Dan proudly serves the citizens of Sutter County’s Second District, which primarily encompasses the original boundaries of the City of Yuba City and lies entirely within the city limits.

Board of Supervisors Meetings

The Sutter County Board of Supervisors will hold regular meetings of the Board on Tuesdays at 3:00 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Please see the calendar below for Board meeting dates.

All regular meetings occur in the Yuba City Council Chambers at City Hall, 1201 Civic Center Blvd, Yuba City, CA, unless the meeting is canceled or the location is changed by Board action. Board meetings are open to the public. Occasionally, the Board of Supervisors will schedule study sessions for dates on which they do not have a regular meeting.

Board of Supervisors meetings are recorded on video and streamed live on the internet.
