Mission Statement
The mission of the Sutter County Public Health Tobacco Control Program (TCP) is to improve the health of all Sutter County residents by reducing illness, chronic diseases and premature death caused by tobacco use through policy, system and environmental changes.
Program Information
The TCP aims to increase awareness of the health risks associated with tobacco use, limit tobacco promoting influences, and promote tobacco cessation. The program works to counter pro-tobacco influences, reduce tobacco sales to youth under 21 years, refer smokers to cessation programs, and help communities reduce the exposure to secondhand and thirdhand smoke.
We provide tobacco education classes to the community and partners and retailer education through workshops and in-store visits. We also offer technical assistance and support to community-based organizations and local business interested in limiting tobacco promoting influences, reducing exposure to secondhand smoke and tobacco products, and promoting tobacco cessation. To support tobacco prevention and cessation efforts, the TCP offers educational materials and free quit kits to the community.
Community Coalitions
Do you want to make a difference in the community? The TCP participates in two local community coalitions: the Coalition Against Tobacco-based Community Harm (CATCH) and Student Advocates for Sutter County (SASC). The goals of these coalitions are to engage community members and partners in grassroots community mobilization activities that educate the public about health issues related to tobacco use.
