The Sutter County Public Health Branch Vital Statistics program helps the community obtain Birth Certificates, Death Certificates, and burial permits.

The Public Health Branch holds only current year and prior year Birth and Death Certificates for births and deaths occurring in Sutter County. For all other years, please contact the Sutter County Clerk-Recorder’s Office at 530-822-7134 or visit the Clerk-Recorder's website. For births at Adventist Health and Rideout Hospital, please contact Yuba County at 530-749-7850, as these Birth Certificates are held by Yuba County.

Because of the increased occurrence of identity theft, new laws were passed to protect birth and death records from misuse. The steps necessary to obtain Birth or Death Certificates have changed significantly. View detailed information on the new procedures and requirements for Birth and Death Certificate Requests.

Beginning January 1, 2026, fees for certified copies of birth, death, and fetal death certificates increased by $2.00. Burial permit fees remain the same. The 2026 fees for certified copies are reflected in the table below:

2026 Fees for Certified Copies

Birth Certificates $31.00
Death Certificates $26.00
Fetal Death Certificates $23.00
Burial Permits $12.00
  • Accepted methods of payment are Checks and Cash only. We do not accept bills larger than $20.
